One number, all your photos
Most interchangeable-lens cameras (and some compacts and phones) write the camera body's serial number into EXIF — the BodySerialNumber tag, plus often LensSerialNumber and more inside vendor MakerNotes. It's the same number in every photo that camera ever takes. Anyone comparing two original files can tell they came from the same physical camera — connecting, say, an anonymous forum upload to the portfolio with your name on it.
It's searchable
Serial-number search services index EXIF from photos across the public web — that's how stolen-camera finders work (upload an old photo, find where your stolen camera's photos are appearing now). Useful if your gear is stolen; less great if you assumed your uploads were unlinkable.
Check, then decide
Drop a photo above — the findings table shows serial fields when present, alongside everything else the file carries. The clean download removes EXIF (serials included), XMP, IPTC and vendor segments at the byte level, with pixels untouched. If you want serials kept for provenance or theft recovery, keep your originals and clean only what you publish.
